The Reds were held to a one all draw at bottom of the league Blackburn at Anfield. A struggling Rovers side arrived with their fans seemingly avoiding the game and to be honest for large parts of the game they didn't look a bottom of the league side. Overall we just didn't quite do enough in the game in order to secure a win and yet again when we had chances we failed to take them and yet again in the final minute the keeper pulled off a great save.
The Reds went with two up front for the visit of Blackburn with Carroll and Suarez paired up front and Maxi in midfield with Downing.
Blackburn got the game started with the Reds defending the Kop in the first half. The Reds started the game fast as always. After just three minutes the Reds had a free kick twenty five yards from goal after Suarez was wrestled to the ground. Suarez himself stepped up to take the free kick but despite beating the wall he also beat the bar and the chances was gone.
A couple of minutes later and Samba cleared ahead of Carroll and Adam saw his follow up shot saved by Bunn in the Rovers goal.
On seven minutes Blackburn managed an attack but Glen Johnson was awake to the danger and rescued the situation which involved him booting the ball across his goal.
The main attack for the Reds was coming down the right as Downing and Johnson continued to link up well but they just couldn't quite play that right final ball.
Blackburn were certainly not out of the game and for me they didn't look relegation fodder for periods of the game.
Suarez shot just wide after turning his man in the area as the Reds continued to fail to make the keeper work.
On twenty seven minutes came our clearest chance when Carroll got on to a loose ball and shot only for Bunn to somehow manage to claw the ball down and the chance went.
With the Reds struggling to get a grip of the game we needed a lift and Gerrard warming up was the best we could do.
Just after this we had a great shout for a penalty and it was a stone wall one for me as Maxi was taken out by Bunn as he went past him. Confusion reigned though as the ref dithered a little only for us to suddenly spot the lino with his offside flag up. I've seen it again since and offside was wrong as it turned out.
As the half neared the end it looked like it was going in 0-0 at half time. That was until Rovers bagged the lead thanks to an own goal from Charlie Adam who sliced a corner kick over Enrique at the near post. It's only afterwards that I saw it was an own goal and I actually thought he'd been beaten at the near post by Formica.
Suddenly the half time team talk had taken on a whole different meaning as the Reds had to come from behind now. No changes were made on either side and the Reds got the game started again.
The Reds started the half well and were right on the front foot. Just eight minutes in to the half and we were back on level terms as Skrtel crossed to the back post and Maxi headed home. We always win when Maxi scores was the first thought in my head at this point and there was plenty of time left.
The Reds were now well on top of the game but they just couldn't hit the target and so many of the attacks seemed to be down blind alleys.
The Reds went close just after the hour mark as Carroll tried an overhead kick in the box but it was blocked en route to the goal.
The next answer the Reds had was to send Gerrard on and he arrived on sixty nine minutes and his first touch was to deliver a free kick which Maxi headed just over.
Just after this and we had a penalty claim when Agger burst in to the area but the ref decided he had dived when he got past his man. I thought it was a penalty for sure but in fairness afterwards I've seen it again and the ref had it spot in in truth.
As much as the Reds continued to push forward the game opened up and for me we looked just as likely to lose two one as we were to win two one.
The Reds pushed on but couldn't score but right in the final minute we had a great chance when Bunn saved at full stretch to push the ball out for a corner. Every game these days and the keeper pulls off a great last minute save. We put the corner in and it was headed on target only for it to be cleared off the line and the ref blew for time.
MotM : Glen Johnson - defended well when called upon and helped the whole right side whenever he could which included some great crosses.
