The Reds opened their reserve campaign at Middlesbrough with a 1-1 draw. However the Boro goal was highly controversial as striker Tom Craddock punched the ball in to the net. Despite huge protests from the Reds the goal stood.
The Reds got their goal from Ray Putterill in the second half. The goal came from a penalty after Grounds had handled in the box for Boro.
A draw was harsh given the circumstances of the goal from Boro but the development of a host of new signings for the reserves was more important.
