Manchester United 1 Liverpool 4

The Reds went to Old Trafford and stunned United with a mighty performance to win by four goals to one. This wasn't a lucky win either but fully deserved and even better after the Reds came from a goal behind to do it.

The Reds were forced in to a late change for this one when Sami Hyypia came out in place of Alvaro Arbeloa who did appear on the bench although presumably injured from the warm up. Presumably no spare man travels these days so effectively we only had six subs.

The Reds won the toss and turned the sides around so the Reds defended the Stretford End in the first half. United got the game started. Carragher started the game on the right with Hyypia going central with Skrtel so at least we weren't suffering the same Boro debacle.

On three minutes Ronaldo crossed a ball in which Park put over the bar courtesy of a deflection off Carragher.

The Reds took a few minutes to get in to the game as United started at pace. On eleven minutes Gerrard nearly got in behind the United line but Vidic managed to hold the Reds' Skipper off and clear the danger.

On twenty two minutes Tevez slid a ball between between Carragher and Hyypia for Park. Reina flew from his goal and although he tried to pull out of the challenge he brought the Korean down and a penalty was awarded. Cristiano Ronaldo stepped up and scored past Reina who nearly reached the shot.

The Reds hit straight back on twenty eight minutes through Fernando Torres. A massive hoof down the pitch from Skrtel to clear the lines turned in to a great ball when Vidic let the ball bounce. Torres raced in, robbed him and was one on one with Van der Saar who he clipped the ball past and raced away with a goal. The game was back on again!

On thirty four minutes United nearly re-took the lead when Ronaldo struck a long range free kick which looked easy for Reina but a small fumble nearly allowed Tevez to score but thankfully he grabbed at the second attempt.

On thirty five minutes Carragher was the first on the book when he took down Tevez who otherwise was clear down their left side. The free kick was charged down after being squared to Rooney. At the other end Ferdinand was booked after he took Kuyt down.

On forty two minutes Carrick turned Lucas in midfield but then blasted his shot well over the bar.

On forty three minutes Torres slipped Gerrard in right side and after taking a touch Evra took him down in the box. Alan Wiley pointed to the spot and Steven Gerrard spotted the ball up. Edwin Van der Saar was booked before the kick could be taken but Gerrard stood firm. Steven Gerrard then slotted the kick home although the keeper went the right way.

The half time whistle came after a couple of added minutes but the Reds went off the pitch on a high with United walking off moaning at one another.

No changes came at half time and the Reds kicked off. Just two minutes in to the half and Reina was nearly caught out with a Ronaldo cross which hit his near post and he had to scramble to grab the ball before United could capitalise.

The main worry at the start of the half was Fernando Torres who looked like he was limping through most of the match.

On fifty six there was a hold your breath moment as a corner fell in the middle of the box and Reina grabbed just before it went over the line.

Javier Mascherano was booked on fifty nine minutes for a foul on Rooney although I think it was more multiple fouls that brought the card.

On sixty three minutes there was another United chance when Ronaldo crossed to the back post and Rooney put the ball across the goal but just behind Tevez and it sailed behind the line for a goal kick.

Skrtel picked up a booking on sixty four minutes when he was late on Tevez. A minute later at the other end and a rare shot for the Reds but Lucas hit his shot straight to the keeper.

United were getting lots of possession and looking to build up a head of steam against the Reds.

On sixty seven minutes the first change came when Dossena replaced Riera down the left side.

On seventy minutes Tevez beat the offside trap and took the ball down but then slid his shot wide. A minute later and Ronaldo blazed a long range shot over the bar.

On seventy three minutes United made a triple change. Scholes replaced Anderson, Berbatov replaced Park and Giggs replaced Carrick.

On seventy five minutes United went down to ten men when Vidic brought down Gerrard who would have been clean through. Vidic walked and Aurelio set the free kick up. Aurelio then stunned Old Trafford by curling the free kick past a static Van der Saar. Dream land was suddenly here.

The Reds replaced Torres on eighty one minutes with Ryan Babel. Torres was clearly struggling and the sub was the right thing to do.

On eighty five minutes the Reds should have scored a fourth when Dossena crossed and Babel managed to control the ball before back heeling to Gerrard but with a clean sight of goal he side footed over the bar.

Steven Gerrard was replaced in the 89th minute by Nabir El Zhar. Just after the change and the score got bigger. Andrea Dossena proved a prolific scorer suddenly when he got on to a long punt from Reina off a goal kick and from just outside the box he lobbed Van der Saar.

Old Trafford was virtually empty before the final whistle finally came to end a superb match for the Reds. Whether this really does change the title race remains to be seen but a win was a must from this game and a win is what we got and deserved.

MotM : Fernando Torres : he was a complete hand full for United all game with his pace and power. Scored one and set the second one up.
