Wrexham 2 Liverpool 3

The Reds got pre-season underway with a 3-2 victory over Wrexham. Most of the squad weren’t back for the Reds so as with the previous season this game saw a mainly reserve side lining up for Liverpool.

Wrexham got the game underway at the Racecourse. The Reds were on the attack early and Adam Hammill had an early shot straight at the keeper. The game was just four minutes old when the Reds took the lead. A quickly taken free kick from the Reds saw Pennant released down the right hand side. He squared a cross to Brouwer who set the ball for Idrizaj to blast home.

Pennant was the assister again for the second goal. Finnan sent the winger flying down the right wing. He got to the byeline before crossing in to the middle where Idrizaj dived through the air to head home.

Idrizaj then completed his hat trick on twenty six minutes when once again a Pennant cross found the Austrian striker. Idrizaj this time got in front of his man to head home for his hat-trick.

The Reds had more chances in the first half to score with Pennant going close. Pennant then threaded a ball through for Idrizaj. He rounded the keeper but then lost his feet a little and by the time he set himself back up his shot was able to be blocked.

There was a whole host of subs made in the game. The home side pulled a goal back in the second half after Martin Hansen cleared a back pass weakly to the edge of the area. Effion Williams slotted home from the edge of the area.

Nabir El Zhar went close with a shot just over the bar after Ryan Flynn had sent him clear. Wrexham though got a second goal. A free kick in to the box had Martin Hansen punching clear at the edge of his area when he should have let the defence deal with it. The ball flew to Effion Williams who lobbed the ball back over the keeper and in to the net. The Reds though held on and left Wrexham with a 3-2 win.
