Jack Balmer

Jack Balmer will always be remembered first and foremost as the hat-trick hat-trick man. In three consecutive games he hit hat-tricks(one of which he bagged 4).

Balmer actually joined the club way back in 1935 and probably lost a sizable official appearance total due to the second world war. He was born in Liverpool, 1916 and after starting his career as an amateur for Everton he joined the Reds in May 1935, still as an amateur. He turned professional in August of the same year and took up his position as inside forward for the Reds.

After establishing himself as a team regular for the next four seasons he found his fifth cut short due to the outbreak of war. Balmer did in fact carry on and make over 100 appearances for the Reds during the war though and scored over fifty times.

Following the war he stayed with the Reds and made a number of appearances before finally hanging his boots up in May 1952. He was the Reds trainer from retirement to 1955 and was later in business in Liverpool. Balmer died aged 64 on Christmas Day 1984.

Career Totals : 312 Games 111 goals plus 101 WWII appearances and 53 goals.
